2008 PAID HOLIDAYS All Faculty, Administration and Staff employees enjoy nine paid holidays as listed below along with two additional floating holidays designated by the President. The University is closed on these holidays. Hourly OPS/Temporary employees are not eligible to be paid for holidays. The paid holidays are the following: New Year's Day (Tuesday, January 1) Martin Luther King, Jr.'s Birthday (Monday, January 21) Memorial Day (Monday, May 26) Independence Day (Friday, July 4) Labor Day (Monday, September 1) Veteran's Day (Tuesday, November 11) Thanksgiving Day (Thursday, November 27) Day After Thanksgiving (Friday, November 28) Christmas Day (Thursday, December 25) FLOATING HOLIDAYS* Wednesday, December 24, 2008 Friday, December 26, 2008 If a holiday falls on a Saturday, the holiday is observed on Friday; if a holiday falls on a Sunday, the holiday is observed on Monday. Refer also to Holiday Hours. Full-time employees in established positions may be granted up to a maximum of 12 hours of leave with pay per holiday (based on the number of hours the employee is normally scheduled to work on that day). Part-time employees are granted a prorated number of hours for a holiday based on their FTE (full-time equivalency). An employee who is granted a leave of absence without pay and is in a non-pay status for the day before a holiday is not eligible to receive payment for the holiday or any other holiday observed while the employee is on such leave. Hourly OPS employees are paid only for the hours of actual work and are not eligible for paid holidays. Professional, salaried OPS, Salaried Graduate Assistants/Associates covered by the collective bargaining agreement, and adjuncts working their regularly required work schedule are paid for holidays. *The two floating holidays were added to the benefits package in 2004 and exact dates are to be designated each calendar year by the President. While most offices will close, there will be exceptions due to the nature of the work performed. These decisions are made by the Vice Presidents and Deans on a case-by-case basis. Staff Personal Holiday Regular full-time and part-time Staff employees are entitled to one personal holiday each fiscal year. For the purpose of determining eligibility for a personal holiday, a regular employee is one who has completed a probationary period without a break-in-service. A personal holiday is credited to eligible employees on July 1, or on the date the employee completes his/her probationary period in any Staff class. A personal holiday must be requested in the same manner as other types of leave and must be taken by the employee on or before the close of business on June 30 or it is forfeited. Holy Days Other religious holy days are not paid holidays but employees may use personal leave to observe those holy days. Refer to Observance of Religious Holy Days for additional information.
